Dr Padmini Sarathchandra

Histologist

Padmini obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences from the Sri Lankan University in 1976 and completed her MPhil in Microbiology at Brunel University in 1986. She joined MRC’s Clinical Research Centre in 1987 as a scientific officer in the Electron Microscopy group.  In 1993, she joined the UCL Institute of Orthopaedics and completed her Ph.D. in Orthopeadic Sciences in 1997. Since then she managed the EM unit at Northwick Park Institute of Medical Research and worked as a Research fellow at the UCL Institute of Orthopaedics. Padmini joined the Magdi Yacoub Institute in 2003 as a histologist. She has over 30 years experience and provides a comprehensive histology and cell imagining service at the Institute. This includes histochemistry, immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. She is highly proficient in all these techniques and provides both a service to the research teams and the teaching of PhD students, visiting researchers and placement students. Padmini has co-authored over 75 peer reviewed articles.
